In the period 27-29 September, the 5th International Symposium on Sensor Science was held in Barcelona. The participants of the Symposium were scientists from all over the world, e.g. from the USA, India, Israel, Albania, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Poland. The symposium was attended by the representative of the Faculty of Navigation (Institute of Geoinformatics), Grzegorz Stępień, PhD., who presented his work on “Method of determination of exterior orientation of sensors in Hilbert type space” in the poster part.

The subject matter of the Symposium focused on the following areas:
- biosensors,
- chemical sensors (including teledetection ones),
- sensors in examining infrastructures,
- the use of sensors.

The themes discussed comprised a wide range of issues beginning from detection of diseases (including cancer), using graphene to build sensors or DNA changes, arriving at examination of deflections in bridges (engineering geodesy). A significant part of presentations and posters also referred to teledetection, including photogrammetric issues connected with Unmanned Aircraft Systems.

The Symposium was organised by the Sensors scientific journal (IF coefficient 2.677), where the presented articles will be published. The next year's symposium is planned in Taiwan.
