On 16th October, we celebrate the European Restart a Heart Day. It is on this occasion that the Polish Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity Foundation organises, every mid October, the annual attempt to break the record in simultaneous cardiopulmonary resuscitation performed by the largest possible number of people.
In the gym in the main building of MUS in Wały Chrobrego, a training in first aid began punctually at 12:00. Using 11 manikins, three rescue guards provided instructions on cardiopulmonary resuscitation to a group of 33 trainees and over 70 observers. The participants to the event were employees and students of the Maritime University of Szczecin and their younger peers from the Maritime School Complex in Świnoujście.
In this year's event, the Maritime University of Szczecin was supported by the Water Volunteer Rescue Service - the West Pomerania branch lent us their training equipment and Iwona Kacprzak from the Szczecin unit - a rescue guard and an excellent instructor, conducted a training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation for school and university students.
- As a professional rescue guard, I always support my students in such events to show them how important it is to practice first aid - says Agnieszka Deja, PhD. Eng., Vice Rector for Teaching of MUS, who personally took part in the event for the second time.
- Such events help us get used to the procedures of giving first aid - said Kamila Jarmołowicz from the MUS Student Government Board. - We don't think about it every day, but it's important to stay cool in a critical moment - she added.
The aim of the event organised by the Foundation is to promote teaching first aid in Poland. The Maritime University of Szczecin first joined the event last year - the authorities, employees and students of the Maritime University together carried out CPR on board Nawigator XXI. In this way, we contributed to breaking the Record of Poland - 16 557 people took part, then, in the largest cardiopulmonary resuscitation lesson. Soon, we're going to find out what the result of this event is.
